DIMLOCK
Last updated 16 October 2026. This policy covers the DimLock app for Android (package com.mysecondwish.blackscreen), made by Farrukh Shahzad. In short: if you agree when you first open it, the app sends anonymous usage statistics to Google Firebase (you can change your mind at any time), the free version shows a banner ad from Google AdMob (Pro removes it), and Google Play handles DimLock Pro purchases. It never collects your name, contacts or screen contents.
What the app collects
DimLock has no accounts, and Farrukh Shahzad runs no server for it. To learn which features are used and improve the app, it uses Google Analytics for Firebase, which receives:
- Feature use: for example that the screen was locked, from where (floating button, tile, shortcut), which mode and options were on, roughly how long it lasted (in ranges such as “10 to 30 minutes”), which settings were changed, and whether the Pro page was opened or a purchase started.
- Standard app information that Firebase collects automatically: an app-instance ID (a random ID for this installation, not linked to your name), app version, device model, Android version, country/region derived from the connection, and when the app was first opened and used.
It does not collect your name, email, contacts, location, screen contents, which video you watch, or your advertising ID: Firebase is set never to read the advertising ID and ad personalisation is switched off for it. The app asks before sending any of this: when you first open it, it asks whether to share usage data, and nothing is sent unless you tap Share. You can change your answer at any time in the app under Stats > Share usage data. Firebase is provided by Google; see Privacy and Security in Firebase. Google keeps this data for the retention period set in Firebase (no longer than 14 months). To stop it, or to have what was sent deleted, see Your data.
Ads in the free version
The free version shows one banner ad at the bottom of the app’s own screens, served by Google AdMob. Ads never appear on the black screen or over other apps, and DimLock Pro removes them. To show and measure ads, AdMob collects information such as your device’s advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, and how you interact with ads, and may use it to personalise ads. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google’s consent form asks for your choice before any ad is requested, and you can change it at any time under Stats > About > Ad privacy choices. Anywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your phone’s settings under Google > Ads (or Privacy > Ads). See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
DimLock Pro purchases
Pro is sold through Google Play Billing. Google Play handles the payment and your payment details; Farrukh Shahzad never sees them. The app asks Google Play whether this Google account owns Pro each time it starts, which is why it has internet access. That check goes only to Google Play. Google’s handling of purchases is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
What stays on your phone
The app saves your own settings on your device so they are there next time: the lock style and darkness, how you unlock, the clock style and format, brightness, sleep timer and vibration options, and the floating button’s look. It also keeps simple usage totals for the Stats tab (how many times and how long the screen was locked). None of this leaves your phone, and uninstalling the app deletes it.
Permissions and why they are needed
- Display over other apps: shows the floating button and the black, touch-blocking screen on top of YouTube or any other app. The app does not read or record what is on your screen.
- Run in the foreground and show notifications: keeps the floating button working while you use other apps, and shows a notification with Lock screen and Stop buttons.
- Set wallpaper: used only when you tap Home, Lock or Both to set a black wallpaper.
- Fingerprint, face or PIN (Pro, optional): secure unlock shows your phone’s own lock check. Android does the checking; the app only learns whether it passed and never sees your fingerprint, face or PIN.
- Internet and Google Play Billing: used for Pro purchases, the usage statistics and the ads described above.
- Advertising ID: used only by Google AdMob for the ads in the free version, as described above.
The app also uses the phone’s proximity sensor when you turn on pocket auto-lock (Pro), to notice when the phone goes into a pocket. When the sleep timer ends, or when you use the media buttons, the app asks Android to pause, play or skip whatever is playing; it does not see which app or video that is.
Sharing
Farrukh Shahzad does not sell your data. Usage statistics go to Google Firebase and Pro payments to Google Play, which process them on the developer’s behalf. The free version shares the information described under “Ads in the free version” with Google AdMob for advertising.
Children
Parents often use DimLock so a child can watch a video without tapping away from it. The app is not directed at children and is meant to be set up by an adult. It has no accounts; the free version shows ads (Pro removes them), and its usage statistics contain no personal details and are only sent if someone agrees when the app is first opened; parents can switch them off under Stats > Share usage data.
